Muslim Scholars Support Agricultural Innovations and Applications of Agribiotechnology

To discuss the need to share evidence-based scientific information to improve social awareness and acceptance of modern agricultural innovation and agribiotechnology, including GMOs, Farming Future Bangladesh (FFB) organized a round table discussion titled “Agricultural Innovation and Agribiotechnology in Islamic Shariah”. The event was held Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB) in Dhaka, bringing together 17 prominent Bangladeshi Muslim scholars and thought leaders.

Muslim scholars discussed the importance of accessing agricultural innovation for sustainable food security and agreed that it’s in keeping with Islamic Sharia and beliefs.

Islamic Scholars Champion Agricultural Innovations and Applications of Agribiotechnology

Islamic scholars discussed the importance of accessing agricultural innovation for a food-secure nation. The bottom line of the discussion was that Islamic belief and science-based agricultural innovations can go hand in hand. They also discussed the need to share fact-based scientific information to improve social awareness and acceptance of modern agricultural innovations and agribiotechnology, including Gene Editing.

The roundtable discussion titled “Knowledge Sharing on Agricultural Science and Innovation in Islamic Sharia” was supported by Farming Future Bangladesh (FFB). The event was held at Lions Foundation Auditorium in Agargaon. Renowned Bangladeshi Muslim scholars and thought leaders were brought under one roof to share ideas about agribiotechnology in the eye of Islamic Shariah. Khatibs of different mosques participated in the discussion and learned about the benefits of adopting agro-biotechnology.
